Types of Financial Aid...

   Federal Aid  - This site defines most kinds of Federal student aid.  (Apply through
        FAFSA)  Or, for more information on each type...

               Loans - student (Stafford and Perkins), parent (PLUS), private loans
                            (alternative) and loan consolidation explained

               Work study - For students with need, the government will help you find a
                             job (on campus or off) to pay for school

               Grants - Grants are awards from the government to low income students.
                            They do not have to be repaid.  The basic grant is the Pell Grant;
                            however, there are several additional grants that can be made
                            (some only to Pell Grant recipients).

                            Pell Grants - The maximum amount awarded for a Pell Grant in
                                   2008-2009 will be $4,731.
                            Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunities Grants (FSEOG) -
                                   For students with exceptional need.  Priority for these grants
                                   is given to Pell Grant recipients.  Funds depend on the
                                   availability at each school.  They range from $100 to $4,000. 
                            Academic Competitiveness Grant (ACG) - For Pell Grant recipients
                                   in their first or second year of college who have completed a
                                   rigorous course of study.  Up to $750 for first year students
                                   and $1,300 for second.
                            National SMART Grant - For Pell Grant recipients who are in their
                                   third or forth year of an eligible math or science program.
                                   Can be up to $4,000 for each of the third and forth years.
                            TEACH grant - This grant, new for the 2008-2009 school year, is
                                   available for those planning to enter the teaching profession
                                   in certain high-need fields or for those attending graduate
                                   school.  Can be up to $4,000/year.

    State Aid - TSAC (TN Student Assistance Corporation) has information about state
                scholarships and grants.

            Can I HOPE?- Requirements for the TN HOPE Scholarship.  (Apply
                   through FAFSA)

     Military Aid - Join the military and get help paying for school.  There's also help
        for dependents of veterans in certain cases.

     Scholarships - There are thousands of scholarships available, and they're not all
        dependent upon financial need.
